Main Squeeze
visual identity, 3D modeling, illustration and animation
OVERVIEW
organic is not tame and boring with this fresh, Colourful and crisp soft drink
Main Squeeze is a fictional soda brand that got its start during a school assignment and has since then developed further during the years in line with the brodening and developement of my skills and knowledge.
It’s a fresh and crisp organic soft drink with focus on the wide range of citrus fruit nature has blessed us with. The mission was to develop a logo that, with type, colour and style, visually represents the brand’s values and clearly speaks of the brands identity.
Project scope:
- Logotype and tagline
- Associated type and colours
- 3D models
- Animation
- Packaging
LOGO
Rounded curves and sharp Cuts
The aim of the logo was to bring forth the feel of the fresh sharpness that you get from citrus fruit. With the rounded curves in contrast with the sharp cuts in the font it has a reminicens of peelings from a citrus fruit. The splash on top of the i brings movement and energy to the logo, at the same time as it points to the brands identity: to quench your thirst.
TYPE
TYPE IT OUT
To contrast the logo's roundness and compliment the sharpness, the types used are clean shaped san serifs with just a hint of movement in them. For legibility contrasting fonts, such as bold and light, are used.
COLOURS
A more colourful intake
There is a wide variety of citrus fruit, with different flavours and colours, but what they all have in common is that they all have there own distinct bright colours. That's why each flavour has its own colour theme, with some colours being picked up again from other flavours, because they are still a family.
3D MODELS
MAKING IT REAL
For the 3D modeling it was all about making it look real and a vital part of that is including all the details and getting them right. With hands on examination and meticulous measurements together with modeling from reference pictures, the can is life-size and with all the details that can be found on a real can. This goes for all the 3D modeling used in the design, not just the cans.
The use of material is also important to get that real-feel. To get the right metallic look on the can, the different textures for the different citrus fruits, it all makes a world of diffenence.
ANIMATION
BRINGING IT TO LIFE WITH ANIMATION
With 3D animation, the design of this fictional soft drink comes to life as it would only otherwise do if it existed in reality. It even takes it beyond reality and into fantasy with bloody rivers to introduce the new spooky flavour Blood Orange, perfect for a Halloween launch. The possibilites are endless.
PACKAGING
A PACK FOR THE THIRSTY ONE
With the packaging for Main Squeeze the aim was to keep in line with the brands overall look, to get that fresh and crisp feel. The 12 pack is a big pack which means a lot of surface to work with. To get the fresh and crisp feel that is Main Squeeze, one thing that's worked with a lot is white space. But it's always a challenge to find the right balance between the content and the white space so it doesn't look empty, especially when the goal is to keep the content to a minimum.
